The Metaphor in Verses Relating to faith and infidelity in Surah Al-Baqarah
Abstract
Quran is the revealed literature of Islam consisting of
commandments of Al-mighty Allah. The Quran is a matchless and
unchallengeable book of Allah. The arrogant Arabs tried to bring
up with identical literature in terms of eloquence and rhetoric but
they failed to do so. That’s why the Holly book of Allah is studied
by researchers from different perspectives including its rhetoric
and still the pearls and diamonds of its beauty can be found in this
pregnant literature.
This article deals with a figure of beautification of Quran
known as metaphor (Iste’aarah). Metaphor is of three kinds in
Arabic literature namely, Tasrihiah, Makniah, and Tamthiliah. In
this article, I have studied metaphor only in those verses of Surah al Baqarah that deals with faith and infidelity. As per my research
in this Surah, I found all the three kinds of metaphor which I have
explained with examples and in the light of authentic books of
rhetoric written by classical and modern scholars.
