Contribution of Mufti Muhammad Farid in Fiqh and His Methodology in Fatawa

Abstract
Mufti Muhammad Farid (d.2005) was one of the finest muftis in Kyber Pakhtonkhwa. His excellence in Fiqh Hanfi and Ifta can be well demonstrated through his fatwas. The trust among the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the result of his fatwas. He has served Hanafi jurisprudence for more than half a century. The number of his fatwas preserved in the records of the Darul Uloom Haqqania Akora Khattak is up to Fifty Thousand. He has also served as a judge and official mufti during the Taliban government in Afghanistan. This article discusses his brief biography, followed by a detail analysis of his contributions. Later on, the article focuses on his great fatwa by describing the characteristics and methodology used in that fatwa. The article summarizes his style of fatwa and concludes that his fatwas were short, in general, and were adorned with appropriate rules and conditions, while supporting his answer by strong arguments from Qurna, Sunnah and Fiqh, when needed. There are also many fatwas on modern issues. A good tradition of acknowledging current facts has been established in his fatwa.
