Abstract
Abdullah Hussain, an Urdu novelist and short story writer from Rawalpindi, is an important name in Urdu fiction. Despite belonging to what he would term as ‘middle class’ of Punjab, in his work he has written on all social classes and in great anthropological detail. He had a deep insight and understanding about the issues faced by these classes and has reflected his observations in his characters. He has portrayed well the changing social class system in the post-colonial period and has also studied the coexistence, clash and relationship between different classes. The article explores this theme in Abdullah Hussain’s work.
