Abstract
The metres which are structured with the rhythmical repetition of two different syllabic-feet are called Caesurus Metres. The trend to use Caesurus Metres in Urdu got popularized due to the demands of innovation and poetic experiments at the outset of the twentieth century. Allama Iqbal too, like his other contemporary, got inspired by this new poetical trend. As a result, he used these metres both in poems and lyrics. The diversified use of Caesurus Metres is not to be found in the poetry of any other poet as in that of Iqbal's. The use of these difficult metres in his poetry is a beautiful combination of his thought and art, which reflects his aesthetic sense, prosodic wisdom and technical expertise. This article is a prosodic study of the use of Caesurus Metres in Iqbal's poetry.
