Abstract
Alliteration is an important and rare poetic device being used by poets for the creation of musical connotation and harmonious effect to their creations. It sounds very pleasantly when it is read loudly. It is not the requisite part of poetry but alliteration adds some extra beauty to poetic verses. Compared to English, Urdu poets have used this poetic device in many innovative ways and have been very successful. Urdu poets also used this poetic device for the expression of their artistic and poetic abilities that as result dozens of types of Sanate Tajnis have come into being. Application of Sanat e Tajness is found more or less in every poet. Syed Mubarak Shah is one of the renowned poets of present era who used this poetic device very aptly and effectively that not only does it sound good to the ears, but also adds to the meaning immensely. He has used this poetic device so often that it would require a separate dissertation to cover it, so only his one poetic collection i.e. ‘Madar e Narsai Mein’ is reviewed here.
