MANSORA AN ANCIENT CITY OF ISLAMIC CIVILIZATION: HISTORICAL AND POLITICAL GEOGRAPHY
Abstract
Like geographers, historians have also dealt in their books with the
conditions of the earth, its longitudinal and altitudinal dimensions,
boundaries etc that have been connected directly with human life.
Furthermore, historians have discussed sociopolitical and religious
conditions of a territory with respect to its significance. The Muslim
historians and geographers of the first Islamic century have gathered
information regarding the newly-established Muslim cities of the
aforementioned century; Mansora is among those cities which was built
after the Islamic conquest of Sindh. It is considered first city of Islamic
civilization in Sindh. This article discusses the following questions in the
light of the available historical and geographical information and
documents. This article shows that in which part of the Sindh Mansora
was situated? When it was built? Where it is located in present day
Pakistan? What is its historical and geographical significance?
