Pakistan has been facing different kind of challenges to its
National Security since 1947. Initially the nature of the problem
was mostly external in which eastern border security was a
dominant concern for Pakistan. Policy makers of Pakistan had
pursued policies and developed strategic relations with other
countries to counter India. Over the years, nature of National
Security policy has considerably transformed. Pakistan active
role during Soviet-Afghan war (1979-1989) and participation in
the War on terrorism as a frontline state has deep implications
for its National Security. Now it faces various kinds of serious
internal challenges to its National Security in the form of
Militancy, Extremism and Terrorism. Now it not only has to
secure its borders from external threats as well as to deal with
infinite rising internal challenges.Keeping in view the nature of
threats, Pakistan Army has changed its blue book and has
focused more upon internal security as well as on external
threats.
