It was made clear at the time of inception of Pakistan by the founding father, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, and Pakistan’s military officers that the military would remain aloof from politics. This study investigates that why this “aloofness” of the military in politics could not be maintained from 1947-1958. The study takes two factors responsible for the active role of the military in politics_ security threats from India and Afghanistan to Pakistan in the early years after establishment of Pakistan and failure of political parties in Pakistan to evolve a democratic political structure and deliver according to the demands of the masses. The current study will discuss the role played by Pakistan military in politics and society after analyzing security threat and failure of political parties to deliver that provided a vacuum to the military to become a major decision maker in Pakistan politics and society
