A Brief Account of Tourwali Language

Language is not only a source of communication but it is also a
major symbol of any culture. It builds friendly relations, economic and
cultural ties. Pakistan is a multicultural and multilingual country. Many
ethnic groups live in Pakistan. They speak different languages. According
to different scholars, more than 50 languages are spoken in Pakistan.
Many of them are spoken in Northern Areas of Pakistan and Khyber
Pakhtoonkhawa. Tourwali language is spoken in district Swat of Khyber
Pakhtoonkhwa. This language is spoken by Tourwal tribe. Approximately
more than 80,000 people speak Tourwali language. It is an ancient
language and belongs to Dardic branch of Indo-European family of the
world languages. Many local and international scholars have carried out
research on Tourwali language including John Biddulph, Aurel Stein, G.A
Grierson, Daniel G. Hallberg, Calvin A. Rensch, Wayue A. Lunsfurd,
Parvesh Shaheen, Dr. G.A Allana, Zubair Tourwali, Inamullah Khan and
others. A local organization TELLS (Tourwali Education, Linguistic and
Literary Society) is working for the promotion and the development of
the Tourwali language. This research article presents a brief introduction
of Tourwali language
