The religious scholars of Baltistan in northern Pakistan established Islamic Judicial System in 1950 with the approval of Mujtahideen to provide free justice and resolve mutual conflicts in accordance with the Sharia Law. The religious court has currently two franchises in Baltistan, one in Skardu and other in Chotron Shiger, where people resort to seek solutions for their conflicts. These courts have made thousands of decisions since their inception and their complete record are available even now. The implementations of judgments despite no enforcement body reflect the religious tendencies of the local inhabitants and supremacy of Islamic teachings in their eyes. Considering the success and utility of this system in Baltistan, it can be declared as a role model for the rest of the country.
