The present study mainly tested the hypothesis that parental bonding and
current thought processing of adolescents would vary between the abused
and non-abused. Parental Bonding Inventory and Children’s Automatic
Thought Questionnaire Negative / Positive along with a Personal
Information Form were administered on a sample of 120 adolescents
equally distributed to the abused and the non-abused groups based on
Child Trauma Questionnaire scores. The results of t-tests revealed a
significant difference in parental bonding and automatic thought
processing between the abused and the non-abused adolescents; the
abused children scoring lower in parental bonding and higher in negative
automatic thoughts. The findings might help parents, guardians, teachers,
clinicians, counselors, psychiatrists, and NGO workers in rehabilitation
of abused children.
