Autism is the most common developmental disorder but also the
least understood. It is characterized by communication and
interpersonal deficits, ritualistic behavior and difficulty in
emotional expression. This study was carried out to assess
whether children with autism displayed identifiable expressions
of anger, anxiety and depression in school and home settings. A
comparison of their levels was also made. A qualitative research
design was chosen for this study. The teachers and parents of 7
children with autism were interviewed and then analyzed using
Thematic Analysis. The results showed that anger, anxiety and
depression are expressed by children with autism from time to
time but anger was the most frequently reported. Differences in
expression and duration of anger, anxiety and depression were
also analyzed.
