ASPIRATION OF IMPLOSIVE SOUNDS
Abstract
In Sindhi language/Linguistics much is to be yet researched,
inquired and worked on, many discourses remain untouched; recently
Mr. Shabir Kumbhar has published his work regarding Sindhi fonts of
aspirates’ diagraph letters. Such work brings forth a necessity of
seriousness by the authorities or institutions in validating or declaring the
standards, unfortunately it is done by an individual and thus proposes
certain confusions. On such confusions and mistakes in print media fonts
and Sindhi computer composing Dr. Jaitley has always acted as
highlighter but unfortunately scholars in Sindh have remained inattentive
to the issue.
Mr. Shabir is busy in developing fonts for right and appropriate
usage of aspirates’ diagraphs, such as: ’جهه ‘and ’گهه ‘and will soon come
to standardize a font. Mr. Shabir is a person of computing engineering,
when he touches the issues of linguistics, there is a possibility and risk of
lacking substantial understanding according to parameters of linguistics.
He has declared 10 extra aspirate sounds. From these, five ( ڙه، ڻهه، نهه، مهه، لهه(
are mentioned in Sindhi Primer book, and three (وه، ره، ڏه (are declared
as Utradi by Dr. Memon Abdul Majeed Sindhi. As mentioned by Dr.
Sindhi, the ’ڏه ’is implosive sound, whereas the phenomenon of aspirate
sound is Plosive. In this regard the aspirate sound of implosive may be
impossible, because of their opposing direction of articulated air.
Mr. Shabir declared 2 extra aspirate sound, ’رنهه‘،’ڳهه .’These two
extra aspirate sounds are not studied/considered in linguistically
appropriate parameters.’ڳهه ’is rooted from ’ڳ ’which is implosive sound;
whereas aspirate sound is Plosive, so it is practically impossible to regard

the aspirate sound of ’ڳ .’In this regard, segmenting and blending or
cluster of sound may be seen in other ways in some words, where ’ڳ’
and ’هه ’are found.’رنهه ’can’t be declared an aspirate according to
parameters of phonemics, because in this ‘ن ‘letter is stands for a nasal
vowel sound, which separates the letters ’ر ’and ’هه .’It shows a poor
approach by the writer towards understanding the sounds of phonemes
and syllables.
In this paper a simple study is brought forward to examine the
discourse of aspirate sounds of implosive sounds and make analysis of
such words regarding phonemes
