Rajindar Singh Bedi’a short story “Lajwanti” is a master piece story based on the communal riots. In this story, the mental state of a woman who has been rescued from her kidnapper and her husband’s psyche is narrated. Lajwanti’s abduction transformed the stern Sundar Lal into a new. He formed a committee named “Dil Mein Basao” and stressed on rehabilitating and reinstating those kidnapped women who are rescued or from the kidnappers. He emphasize this so that they could live a respectful and honorable life but Sundar Lal’s sympathies and affectionate treatment made Lajwanti’s miseries even more deplorable and in spite of their utmost efforts, they could not restore their relationship to the old term. This is the tragedy that be fell Sundar Lal and his wife as a consequence of the communal riots.
