Being a dominant part of the literature, short story is the very reflection of the society. It is, infect, short story that not only brings about change in the thoughts and perceptions of the individuals, but paves a way for social change. Social, economic and political conditions, prevailing in society, directly affect the creative avenue of a short story writer, who tries to present existing conditions accordingly. Likewise Sindhi short story is not a separate entity and closely attached with Sindhi Society. Thus, every aspect of the society has been highlighted in Sindhi short story so as to acquaint a general reader with the environment around. Sindh witnessed a tremendous change after the partition of the sub-continent. This change was multi-faceted and put Sindhi society in trial. Resultantly, the Sindhi short story writer stood out to pen down the social realism. Jamal Abro was the fore-runner writer after independence whose short stories are true image of Sindhi society at that time. Jamal Abro was followed by a galaxy of short story writers, who stood against social evil, feudalism, poverty etc. and wisely and craftily, highlighted such aspects in their short stories. They, no doubt proved themselves the masters of pen, wisdom them, the names of Dr. Ayaz Qadri, Agha Saleem, Abdul Qadii, Junejo, Shaikh Ayaz, Amar Jaleel, Ghulam Rabbani Agro, Qamar Shahbaz Siraj-ul-Haque, Naseem Kharal, Shaikh Hafeez Hameed Sindhi, Rasheed Bhatti, Ibne Hayat Panhwar, Ali Baba, Manik, Bashir Moriani, Ali Ahmed Brohi, Khwajo Saleem, Ghulam Nabi Mughal, Dr. Najam Abbasi, Anees Ansari, Muhammad Bux Johar and Razaque Mahar stand at the top. Women short ئروë»ھر [́3/4ºòãôãرäë[ ورهاڱي کان پوِء سنڌيكھاڻيكارن جيكھاڻين ۾ سماججي تصوير 141 story writers are not behind on this front. Sumaira Zareen, Begum Zeenat Channa, Apa Shamas Abbasi, Naseem Mughal, Mehtab Mehboob, Noor-ul-Huda Shah, Abida Ghanghro etc are worth mentioning. This paper attempts to cover all the aspects of Sindhi society which have been shown in the short story writers of Sindh.
