Different sciences have been launched to comprehend the meaning of Quran.
Among these, one is the Science of Tajweed and Qeraat, the aim of which is protecting the
pronunciation of the Quranic Words and beautifying its recitation. This science has various
aspects. In this paper we have discussed one aspect “The signs of stop and waqf”. The
knowledge in which these signs are discussed is called the knowledge of stop’s signs “ معرفۃ
الوقوف ”. All the verses of Quran are divided into small parts and gapped by these signs of
stop, so that the reader can understand the meaning in the right manner. The knowledge of
these stops is necessary. Without it, it is difficult to apprehend the verses. Along with it there
come several controversies among various scholars of the science of Qeraat, to modify the
actual place of a stop’s sign. This controversy affects Islamic scholars of Fiqh as well, in the
derivation of various Islamic issues. In this paper we will have a glance on the introduction of
the knowledge first and then will examine its effects on Islamic scholars “Islamic
jurisprudence” in derivation of Islamic problems.
