Centres for Propagation of Islam during the Lifetime of the Prophet (peace be upon him): An Appraisal

The Last Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) addressed all the human beings in his very first speech at the Ṣafā Mount as he was sent as a prophet for the entire humanity. This was the beginning of enlightenment and the end of ignorance. The revolution by the Prophet (peace be upon him) which beautified the world was completed in only 23 years. The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) was alone while preaching Islam in Makkah, gradually and unceasingly people of Makkah and from surroundings of Arabia accepted Islam. Various Islamic centres facilitated the preaching of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and expansion of Islam all over the Arab territory. Thus, people from different Arab tribes like Abū Zar Ghaffārī from Ghaffār, Tufail from Doos, Zammād from Azd, As‘ad bin Zurārah from Khazraj, accepted Islam. These companions returned to their tribes as a preacher of Islam during the first thirteen years of Prophet Muhammad’s da'wah in Makkah. Likewise, after migration to Madina, the main Islamic Centre was Masjid e Nabvi where several delegations came and accepted Islam especially in the ninth year after Hijrah. This research is intended to present the extensive details of the various Islamic centres during the lifetime of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and to explore their role in the propagation of Islam. The article moves on the details of the Islamic centres chronologically. Besides, the centres for the propagation of Islam, it also introduces the prominent companions who accepted Islam to add to the significance of the centres. The study will surely help the contemporary institutions of propagation of Islam to revive their spirits and learn the core values of an institution of Islamic propagation.
