Basosquamous carcinoma (BSC) is a rare cutaneous malignancy, with mixed morphology of both basal cell
carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). It was first described in 1910 by MacCormac and later by
various authors which has a potential for aggressive infiltration, local recurrence and distant metastatic spread.
This behavior differs substantially from BCC. BSC is more common in men; usually presenting in the fifth to eighth
decades of life. It has reported incidence of 1-2% of all carcinomas of the skin. It is radio-resistant and has a poor
prognosis. Johnson et al described BSC as a wolf in the sheep’s clothing. Therefore complete resection with
negative surgical margins is essential and long-term follow-up for the detection of local recurrence and distant
metastatic spread is recommended.
