Delhi, Faizabad, and later Lucknow are very known centers of Urdu poetry in 18th century. Despite their importance regarding the linguistic and literary development of Urdu prose and poetry, it is also well acknowledged that this process was not only confined to these areas. Other areas such as Azimabad, Calcutta and Rampur etc also contributed in the enrichment of this literary tradition. Likewise in the 2nd half of the 18th century Hafiz Ghulam Murtaza Khwaishgi was poeming in Kasur, Punjab, Pakistan. A masnavi named Gulraiz is his memorable work. It is translation of a Persian masnavi which was written by Ziauddin Nakhshabi. In unpublished Gulraiz, there are many prominent aspects which are yet to be explored. Such as in Gulraiz there are 28 Urdu ghazals. Some ghazals are part of the text and some are written on its margin. These are rare example of ghazal in Punjab in 18th century. In this article original text and linguistic study of these ghazals is first time presented.
