This article discusses the socio-imperialistic aspect and origin of words as they come to be used in a language. Language is influenced by the attitudes and behaviour of the dominant class of a society. As the West has prevailed over the East over the past some centuries, it seems do have established itself in the minds of the subjugated races as superior in colour, manners, etc., so that white and red is all good whereas black has come to be connected with all that is vile and vicious. The me then in compound of black always denotes a negative meaning whereas white symbolises purity as red does happiness, joy and exuberance. The article traces in the Urdu language such words that have acquired a negative or a positive meaning through the trend that took root through an imperialistic mind-set and influence.
