Separatist tendencies grow when grievances of a particular community or people of a particular area are not addressed for a long period of time. In Pakistan, what provokes people is disparity among its regions in terms of education, health, industry, and infrastructure. Though slogans and demands for new provinces are mostly exploited by the politicians for their own vested interests, it is worth analyzing whether these demands find any justification on the basis of lack of abovementioned facilities. Hence, this paper attempts to answer the following questions: What is the historical position of Saraiki region? Has it remained connected or detached in past from the mainstream Punjab? Does descriptive statistics show any large scale differences in basic facilities of life between Central Punjab and Sariaki Punjab? Do socia-economic statistics support demand for a separate province?
