Objective To asses effects of mini dose suxamethonium to facilitate laryngeal mask airway (LMA) insertion and its post operative complications. Patients and Methods Sixty ASA 1 and 2 patients aged 15-55 years who were scheduled for various surgical procedures were divided in two groups. Thirty patients received propofol (control group) and thirty received suxamethonium 0.1 mgkg as a single bolus dose (study group). Total dose of propofol, fasciculations, apnea, conditions during LMA insertion and hemodynamic changes were recorded. Results LMA insertion was easy with lesser swallowing, gagging or coughing in group B. Less amount of propofol was required in group B, hence reduced side effects of propofol were observed in this group. Myalgia was present in 10% patients given suxamethonium. Conclusion The combination of propofol with mini dose suxamethonium provided a significantly better and economical method for LMA insertion. (Rawal Med J 2010;35: ).
