This article challenges Aziz Ahmad's analysis in a chapter of his book Iqbal, Nai Tashkeel of Iqbal's views on the role of women in a Muslim society. Aziz Ahmad proves Iqbal to be a forward looking, enlightened, non-conformist in all his views regarding the social, political and religious life of a society. However the sources that Aziz Ahmad uses to study Iqbal's views on women are questionable. The author of this article establishes that Iqbal's ideas are not conventional and backward in this respect. He, that is, Iqbal maintains a balanced view, where he only discourages some extreme ideas promoted in the West. Otherwise he encourages the emancipation of women and believes in the equality of man and woman, especially from the religious point of view which he maintains was not rightly interpreted.
