Sindhi Society and Sachal Sarmast’s concept of Ideal Society
Abstract
All the great poets of the world have been associated with social
pain. They have not only felt the misery around them but also suggested the
remedy for it. After going through that external agony they come up with a
thought and philosophy which brings about a decisive change in society.
Such matchless poets always have a unique point of view. Sachal Sarmast
by raising the slogan of ‘I am the Truth’ not only paved an individual way
but also challenged all the oppressive forces. He as a poet was the companion
of the common men and he effectively spread the message of social
awakening. He was not an extremist in any sense. To him a Hindu and a
believer are the same who have mutual love and respect for each other.
Sachal is not only a prominent figure among classical Sindhi poets but he is
a poet for all ages so his thought is applicable to present society also. In his
poetry we find the message of world peace, unity, brotherhood, love and
humanitarianism. In his trance-like state he projected the tradition of
aggression against injustice rather than tolerance and lack of resistance. To
highlight the religious aspect of fraternity Sachal emphasised the vast and
comprehensive concept of religion instead of limiting it to the mosques.
In this research article I have presented the brief study of Sindhi
society with references from the poetry of Sachal Sarmast.
