Abstract
Adaptations, in their new social and historical contextualization sometimes result in a considerable shift from the source text, as was the case with some of the works produced at the Fort William College. This article studies the adaptation of Kalidas’ popular Sanskrit drama Shakuntala by Mirza Kazim Ali Jawan and Hafiz Abdullah in its literary and historical context.
