Abstract
This paper is an introduction and analysis of the first Persian autobiography written in India. The autobiography was written by Amīruddīn Miraṅ Jī Shamsul Ushshāq around 1585. Shamsul Ushshāq belonged to the Chishtia school of Sufism and was a noted writer and mystic saint of the ‘Ādil Shāhī period (1490–1686). The two distinct but integrated streams of the book are based on ancestral and personal accounts of the author. Five known manuscripts of the book are available in Bījāpūr and Hyderabad (India).
