Abstract
Short story is one of the most popular genres of fiction in Urdu literature. Although the novel was introduced earlier than the short story but the popularity of the latter is evident from the valuable works of criticism on this genre. Teaching of fiction requires a broad and complex knowledge of the background as well as the social, cultural and political aspects of the particular era of literature under discussion. The importance of this particular aspect is the main theme of this article.
