Abstract
Translation Studies is now a recognized discipline, however, scholars in Pakistan have yet to review translations in a theoretical context. This article reviews the influence of various factors on the craft of translation as well as various kinds of translation. Some translations done in Urdu in various periods are also studied. The focus is on formulating some basics of translation that could provide a framework for translating.
