Abstract
The paper examines the status of women in Pakistan in light of their economic, social and political roles in the society, To present a composite view of women's status various indicators of Gender Development (GD) and Gender Empowerment (GEM) have been looked into (UNDP, -1955). While GD defines women's position on basic, human development measures such as, education, heath and employment the GEM reflects gender disparities in political participation and decision making positions.
