The Tradition of Urdu Editing: Analytical Study

Abstract
The tradtition of "Urdu Tadveen e Matn" has its roots in the rich and flourishing history of Tadveen in Arabic and Persian. Particularly it drives its principals and rules from the Tadveen of Quran and Hadees. Then it got its founding from English sources also. Urdu Tadveen e Matn Started from the beginning of 20th Century. Hafiz Mehmood Shirani was its first proponent. Then it spread throughout India to different centres of learning. Dr. Azmat Rubab in her dissertation points out such 12 centers of Tadveen e Matn throughout the length and breadth of India and Pakistan. Prominent among these are Deccan, Lahore, Delhi, Karachi, and Raam Pur etc. where learned scholars carried out Tadveen of important manuscripts and texts. She has reviewed all the major works edited at these centers and discussed their prominent trades and characteristics. It is indeed a classical work which covers the whole traditions of Urdu Tadveen e Matn in Prose and Poetry form beginning to the present day.It is a great addition to Urdu research tradition and records all the attempts to preserve the texts of Urdu Literature.
