THE CULTURAL REFLECTION OF SUBCONTINENT IN MATHNAVI DOWAL RANI KHIZR KHAN
Abstract
Amir Khosrow is one of the greatest Persian poets of the
Subcontinent. His knowledge in Arabic, Persian, Turkish and
Hindi languages enabled him to employ exotic puns and
stunning literary tricks. He was requested by Alaudin Khilji's
son Khizr Khan to compose his romance with the princess
Dowal Rani, the daughter of Raja Karan of Gujrat. Amir
Khosrow composed this long poem of 4200 verses in only
four months. He also sang a chorus of praise for the soil and
the soul of India. He always seems to prefer the Indian
exquisiteness over the beauties of Egypt, Rome, Samarqand
and rest of the world. He goes on revealing the charming
grace of India, its elegance and diversity. He highly
appreciates Indian learning and wisdom in its languages,
particularly for Sanskrit which is in no way inferior to Persian.
The whole forms a peerless specimen of the masterpiece of
the romantic literature.
