An analytical assessment of the historiography of Mirza Ghulam Hyder Beg.

Abstract
Mirza, a sub-tribe/clan of the Persian origin live in historical neighborhood of old Hyderabad town known as Tando Agha, enjoys a distinct academic position in the cultural and intellectual firmament of the city. Born in this academic family, Mirza Ghulam Hyder Beg "Qambar" was a unique and accomplished personality of his Age who indeed excelled amongst his astute refined contemporaries owing to his noble conduct and dignified mannerism. He was a well-known Elegiac poet and an impressive narrator `Dastango` of this genre. His elders belonged to Chughtai Mughal tribe of Delhi and had later settled in Thatta before coming to Hyderabad Sindh. Mirza Ghulam Hyder's grandfather Mirza Murad Ali Beg "Sa'il" was also a meritorious Elegiac poet and a reciter of the "Marsia" and had established the tradition of Elegy in 1173 Hejra. Some of this worn out, tattered and decrepit pieces of poetic manuscript were later obtained from his great grandson Mirza Manzoor Ali Beg. These include remnants of Masnavi Firaqnama Syeda Fatima Sughra, 13 historic quatrains, a poem about the principles of Abjad (numerological prosody), 7 Elegies, 3 Salams and 12 Rubais. The historiographic Quatrain is one of the salient genres of Sindhi poetry and is suitably used to preserve history of an event via words. About 13 such historiographic Quatrains have been secured from the extant poetry of Mirza Ghulam Hyder. This article encompasses an indepth study of the poet's art of historiographic versification.
