Abstract
Marmaduke William Pickthall was a son of Mery O‘Brien and Charles Grayson Pickthall. He was born on 7th April 1875. His maternal grandfather Admiral Donat Henry O‘Brien wrote a book ‘My Adventures during the Late War’. Pickthall got writing legacy from his maternal grandfather. He visited Egypt in 1907 on the invitation of Lady Valda Machell. Pickthall’s acceptance of Islam was in 1917. He joined Hyderabad Deccan’s education department as a Principal of Chadarghat High School for boys. He delivered a series of lectures at Madras in 1925. His translation of the Holy Qur’ān, ‘The Meaning of the Glorious Qur’ān has seen more than 200 editions uptill now. Pickthall breathed his last on 19th May 1936 and was buried in Brookwood Cemetery, Surry, on 23rd May 1936.
