Abstract
Mukhtar b. Abu Ubaida al Thaqafi who captured Kufa, Iraq to take revenge of the blood of Imam Hussain. The character of Mukhtar has become dispted in the history and there are two types of views about him. According to one view Mukhtar was a liar, he captured Kufa for his own agenda and the slogan of vengeance for the the blood of Imam Hussain was nothing but a political game to get support from shias and alawites againts Ummayads and Zubairis. He allegedly claimed for prophet hood and used to utter sentences similar to the verses of Quran. Another view says that Mukhtar was a true follower of Islam and a hardcore supporter of Ali b. Abi Talib. He was arevolutionary leader who took revenge from the killers of the progeny of the Holy Prophet. In this articles Dr. Zahidi and Dr. Zaidi has critically analyzed the issue and the source material and concluded that Mukhtar was not a liar but he was a revolutionary leader.
