Abstract
Islamic teaching provides guidance in every walk of life whether they are related to the necessities of life, Medicare, or luxuries of life. By following directives of Islam we can provide solution to every problem including environmental pollution. Environmentalists say that it is necessary that one fourth of the land should be covered with forests in order to provide congenial atmosphere for life. Shortage of forests put negative effects on the economy of a country; especially those countries whose economy is entirely based on agriculture. Wildlife has an important role in sustenance of the forests. Human being and wildlife is closely dependant on each other for a better life. In this scenario, preservation of the wildlife has got international importance. As a matter of fact, for the last fourteen hundred years, these guidelines have been provided in the Islamic teachings. According to Islam, plantation of trees carries great divine reward in the life hereafter and the unnecessary and mass killing of animals is considered a sin. Following these guidelines, protection of forests can be guaranteed. This article focuses on Islamic teachings which ordain the protection of forests and wildlife as a religious obligation.
