The purpose of this study was to evaluate the teacher education program in Khyber-Pakhtonkhwa
viz-a-viz perception of the trainees related to different aspects of teacher education institutes. A
survey questionnaire with 72 items grouped under seven broad categories was used to compare
the perception of elementary and secondary trainee teachers related to different aspects of teacher
education institutes. To achieve this objective, ten regional institutes for teacher education (five
male and five female) and five institutes of education and research (IERs) were selected. From each
institute 50 trainees were selected randomly. Thus the total number of respondents was 750.
Although the questionnaire was administered to the whole sample, only 600 participants returned
the questionnaire after completion. Most of the respondents reported a wide gap between theory
and practices.
