Abstract
TORY "GANDASA'' LEADS TO A NEW FILM ERA Abstract This research concludes that the success of Maula Jutt set new trends for Punjabi films and also encouraged film-making in other regional languages. The credit for this must go to Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi's ground breaking short story "Gandasa". Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi should undoubtedly be considered a pioneering story writer since the film that was based on his short story, opened a new chapter in film industry though perfect depiction of Pakistan's rural culture. No writer knows the impact that his narrations will create. Sure enough Qasmi sb also didn't know that his short story would lead to a new era in films where Maula Jutt will be admired and watched by film enthusiasts across Pakistan including in Karachi. This demonstrates that those who love the cultural diversity of the country, would watch films that promote the rural culture, although they may not have much knowledge of the regional languages. It is heartening that the film industry is being revived, but we should also focus on producing movies in regional languages. This will not just promote the local languages, but will also create harmony through bringing people close from different regions of the country and play a pivotal role to bring back the glory days of Pakistan's film industry.
