Abstract
Objective: To calculates the risk of developing upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders in males and females and to investigate the factors that increase the risk.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Chen One Limited. The sampling was non probability convenient sampling 60 male and 60 female factory workers were included in the study. Data were collected through Orebro Musculoskeletal Questionnaire and each individual was graded on the basis of questionnaire. Gender specific statistical analyses was performed on all the variables of interest.
Results: 52 participants complained of neck pain, 17 complained of upper back, 12 complained of arm pain, 1 complained of leg pain and 18 complained of several areas of pain. Most pain was experienced in upper extremity by in total of 81.In results of my study a significant association between females and neck pain was seen with p value<0.5 which shows greater percentage of females accounting for 61%, and only 25% of males . Orebro questionnaire graded the sample size in three categories, people who were at a lower risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders constituted of 34% males and 17.5% females, people who were at a mediocre risk constituted of 15% males and 23.3% females, people who were categorized on higher risk constituted of 0.8% males and 9.1% females. Females are significantly at a greater risk of developing musculoskeletal disorder than males.
Conclusion: Working females are at a greater risk of developing musculoskeletal symptoms as compared to males. There are a lot of work related and non-work related factors that lead to the increased occurrence of upper limb pain and issues in females.
