Abstract
Tasawwuf, known as Sufism is actually a broader style of worship and inward dimensions of Islam. This phenomenon of mysticism and tasawwuf flourished and developed in Algeria during 9th century. The existence of Sufi orders in modern Algerian history was not negative at all, but rather, it led Algerian society to confront the French occupation. The Sufi movement has a prominent role in the popular revolutions that took place in Algeria during the nineteenth century and the resistance shown by the Algerians and their motives to defend their country is due to the distinguished and effective role that religious leaders played in mobilizing anxiety and reviving religious enthusiasm in them, and this is what made the Sufi movement of all kinds to play a vital role in the revolutions of the nineteenth century. As for as this research is concerning, the origins and development of Sufi orders in Algeria, it was during the 12th and 13th centuries, and this phenomenon is the result of religious, social, political and economic advances, whose roots go back to the 9th century, and with this emergence, several mystical methods were introduced and flourished. It played a very vital role in reviving religious enthusiasm and freedom. At the end, the researchers have drawn various results.
