Social and Economical Rights of Prisoners in Islamic Sharī‘ah: Case Study of the Prisoners of Southern Punjab

Abstract
Due to the commitment of any crime elimination of rights and obligations is a common practice from ancient times. The objectives of penitentiary were basically not only to provide security to the community but also reform the behavior of the prisoner. But one can observe that these objectives are not accomplished. So, it is important to take a look in the rights of prisoners. The present article discusses the socio-economic rights of prisoners. Being social animal the right of living in a community cannot be taken from prisoners. Similarly, even being prisoners the obligations to support their families remain their responsibilities. But these rights and responsibilities effect badly due to prison. This research shows the analytical study about the existing socio-economic matters of prisoners. That's why a survey is conducted in 6 South Punjab prisons and a questionnaire was given to prisoners and staff to examine the Pakistani laws and their current position in prisons
