Abstract
It is informed with deep sorrow that renowned Mycologist and Plant Pathologist Prof. Dr. Masoodul-Hasan Hashmi passed away on Saturday, 18th July, 2020 in Karachi. He earned Ph. D. degree from University of Karachi in 1988 under the supervision of renowned Plant Pathologist Late Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghaffar, Department of Botany, University of Karachi in collaboration with Danish Institute of Seed-Pathology for Developing Countries, Copenhagen, Denmark. Earlier he passed his school from Government High School, Unnao, Lucknow, India; and Intermediate from DVA College, Kanpur, India. After coming to Pakistan he joined University of Karachi as 1st year B. Sc. Hons. Student in the Department of Botany and done his M. Sc. from University of Karachi in 1961. Then he went abroad and earned M. S. from University of Waterloo, Canada in 1971 worked along with renowned International Mycologists and Plant Pathologists on the Karyology of Conidiogenesis in Fungi Imperfectii. He worked efficiently and diligently in various positions in University of Karachi, Pakistan and University of Waterloo, Canada. His research domain was the identification and purification of Seed-Borne Plant Pathogenic Fungi from various sources and extraction of various Mycotoxins from cereal crop plants which are possible causes of various potent diseases in men and animals. He taught various courses of Microscopy, Mycology, Plant Pathology and SeedPathology etc. in the Department of Botany, University of Karachi for more than 20 years with highly professional skills and dedication and produced a lot of students throughout the Pakistan and abroad who are serving now in renowned positions. He retired on 25th December, 1999 as Professor, Department of Botany, University of Karachi. He produced three Ph.Ds. in Plant Pathology working in various renowned positions in Universities. He published more than 70 research articles in National and International Scientific Journals.
