Abstract
Urdu language known for its beauty and greater accommodation has always assimilated words and expressions of regional languages and cultures in its fold. In some cases, the influence of regional languages and cultures on Urdu has gone so deep that Urdu language and literature had to take a leap forward only with their help. Pashto language and the rich culture of Pashtun are among them purely on the basis of their contribution to Urdu language. Pashtun culture is so rich and vibrant that it reflects even the finest nuances of life in their fullness. Urdu short stories have depicted the same beauty of Pashtun culture in its own unique way. Urdu short stories have not only beautifully presented Pashtun traditions and values typical to them but, at the same time, it has also made successful attempts to highlight the Pashtun demeanor, physique, accent, mannerisms, dress and other idiosyncrasies specific to Pashtuns in the delineation of these characters. This research paper analyses these aspects of Pashtun characters in Urdu short stories.
