Abstract
Sir Syed Ahmad Khan emerged as a key leader of the Indian Muslim community after 1857. Although soon after 1857, he remained the follower of the unity of Muslims and Hindus and always referred to Indian nationalism but in the end it is he who has been credited for originating the two-nation theory followed by the Aligarh Movement. His famous magazine "Tehzeeb ul Akhlaq" promoted the same thesis. He made this magazine an effective instrument to acknowledge the theological link between Muslims and their colonial masters and to bring them close. He tried to uplift the thoughts of Muslim nation regarding culture, education, religion and politics through "Tehzeeb ul Akhlaq". A comprehensive review of Sir Syed's intellectual services and the task of "Tehzeeb ul Akhlaq" to fortify the Muslims of India in every aspect of life has been thrashed out in this paper.
