Abstract
This research paper examines the application of theory of party
identification in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with reference to 2013 elections.
The study argues that the theory of party identification is mostly not
applicable in the electoral politics of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2013
elections. A sample of 800 respondents has been selected through
multistage random and systematic sampling from the voter list in NA-2
Peshawar in a pre-polled survey. The quantitative data reveals that more
than fifty percent respondents (53.3%) supported the view that their
electoral preference would not be based on party identification in 2013
elections. The chi-square value provides a significant p-value which
shows that there is close association between party identification and the variables including urban/rural divisions, gender, age, profession,
monthly income and literacy.
