Abstract
Leadership is a quality of a person who can drive people forward with a view to achieve a common goal. The essentiality of consultation in Islamic leadership is confirmed elsewhere in the Qur’an in the context of mentioning commendable attributes of the believers. Allah Almighty commands the Prophet (PBUH) to consult with the Companions about decisions whichever He needed to make. These were not decisions about the basics of faith, which are determined by God as revealed in the Qur’an, but about short-term and long-term issues of the Muslim community and the management of the relationships with other communities. This is a genuine consultative process that involves the Companions as participants and the Prophet (PBUH) as the ultimate decision maker. According to Quran and Sunnh there are some general inevitable characteristics that an individual must possess to be able to become a successful pioneer, such as faith, good intention, confidence, honesty, communication skills, empathy, optimism, encouraging etc. acting as a role model for the people. This article deals with the leadership qualities & characteristics of a national leader in the light of Holy Quran and Seerah of Holy Prophet (PBUH).
