Abstract
This paper represents an attempt at deriving the welfare scores by using logarithmic transformation. These scores have been used to assess the comparative effects of different policies to improve the quality of life in the rural Punjab, Results of the study show that provision of roads, education and health facilities were the main deficient areas requiring immediate government attention in the needed cropping zone. Similar results, with relatively low seems, were obtained for the cotton- and rice -based cropping zones. Key words: ecological zones, logarithmic transformation, policy implications, welfare indices
