Abstract
An investigation in Kalat district of highland Balochistan revealedt~ mange mite infestation in sheep is an important parasitic problem in the district. One species of mites, Sar~tes scabiei, was identified from the scraped material of the infested sheep. Overall prevalence of Sarcopte$~lJi!biei was recorded as 21.0 0/0. No specific pattern of mite infestation lesions was found on the sheep. Sever~~tensity of lesions was observed on ears, face, shoulder, loins, on the back and upper side of the body. Poor $~nitary conditions, imbalanced nutrition, poor management and congested housing seemed to be responsiblElformange mites infestation. A tendency to overlook the mange mites infestation and unawareness of the farrn,ts to use acaricides further paved the way for prevalence of this infestation.
