Abstract
Broad sense heritabilities and genetic advance values were computed for plant height, number of tillers per plant, spike length, number of spike-lets per spike, number of grains per spike, 1000-grain weight and grain yield per plant, involving four wheat (Triticum aestivurn L. em. Then.) crosses viz. LU26 x PNAHCS, LU6O x PW7, LU31 x V79353 and LU31 x All the characters studied were quantitatively inherited. The herit-ability estimates for different characters were generally high to moderate in all the crosses with expected genetic advances.. Cross LU3I x V79353 showed extremely high heritability for plant height, number of tillers p-er plant, 1000-grain weight and grain yield per plant. Keeping in view the high heritability estimates for various charac-ters, selection should lead to a fast genetic improve-ment of this material.
