Abstract
Dissertation writing is a process which has its own diction, structure and layout. The language in dissertations has to be in the cadre of academic English. The linguistic specifics of academic Engli.sh have certain standard and field based norms in which nominalization is one of the very important characteristics in encoding research in dissertations. Pakistan. By utilizing Corpus-based research methodology, the study illustrates the categories and
functions of different types of the processes of ominalization via suffixation in PhD dissertations. The stud y is significant in facilitating the understanding of scholars and researchers about the forms and functions of nominalization via suffixation in academic writing in
English literature, linguistics and language teaching in Pakistan.
