Abstract
During my training as an undergraduate, just 45
years ago, pediatrics was a subject that could be
‘ignored’ as a branch of medicine encompassing
all the arena of medical care; the children by
virtue of their size were simply dismissed as half,
one-third and or quarter of an adult dose. The
time slot for training and lectures was quite
limited and being a non examination subject,
often it was ignored for in depth learning by most
examinees. This practice continued some years
after my batch mates graduated but the
specialty of Pediatrics now stands well
recognized in Pakistan even in rural areas, in
contrast to having to explain every family as to
what subject specialist could offer for their
children and that children are truly different with
different disease and management strategy
